Have you ever heard of prefabricated houses?

2025-04-15

When we talk about building a house, what may come to many people's minds are dusty construction sites, the clanging of hammers, and a long construction period that lasts for months. However, with the development of the times, a construction method that subverts tradition has gradually emerged, that is, prefabricated houses. It builds houses just like building with building blocks, moving the construction site into the factory, making our buildings more efficient, more environmentally friendly, and even more personalized, and greatly saving the cost of working time.

The concept of prefabricated houses is not new. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, Europe used prefabrication technology to quickly rebuild post-war houses. Nowadays, with the maturity of industrialization technology and the increase in environmental protection requirements, it has a new concept. A prefabricated house means that various modules of the house, such as walls, floors, roofs, and even the entire room, are pre-built in the factory, and then transported to the construction site and assembled like building Lego blocks. Compared with traditional buildings, the biggest difference of prefabricated houses lies in factory production. In the factory, workers use robotic arms to cut steel and pour concrete, and the size of each panel is accurate to the millimeter; thermal insulation materials, water and electricity pipelines have already been embedded in the walls, and even the doors and windows are installed in place in advance. After these modules are completed, they are neatly loaded onto trucks. After being transported to the destination, the workers only need to hoist and fix them with a crane, and a house can be installed in just a few days.

The reason why prefabricated houses are becoming more and more popular is mainly because they have many advantages. First of all, the efficiency is very high. A house can be installed in just a few days, which is very useful for cities in urgent need of housing or for the urgent needs of post-disaster reconstruction. Secondly, prefabricated houses are very environmentally friendly. When building a house on a construction site, about 30% of the materials will be wasted. However, the factory production of prefabricated houses can accurately calculate the amount of materials used, and the leftover materials can be recycled and reused. The overall energy consumption is reduced by more than 50%, which greatly saves our costs.

Some people are worried that prefabricated houses are not strong enough. However, the houses produced in the factory are cured in a workshop with constant temperature and humidity, and their strength is higher than that of outdoor pouring. Moreover, in the factory, the quality inspection process records data for every step, from the welds of the steel to the sound insulation test of the walls. The quality traceability is much more transparent than that of traditional construction sites. Therefore, we don't need to worry too much about the quality of prefabricated houses.
