On November 20, 2022, a Chinese guy who went to Doha, Qatar to watch the World Cup posted a video to share his current residence.
The video shows that the internal facilities of a container-style hotel are quite comprehensive. The price of a double room is US$200 per night (about RMB 1,450).
Sofas, beds, wardrobes, TVs, and showers are all available.
Although there is desert outside the house, the scenery is not bad.
As a carnival held every four years and the curtain call for many stars, the Qatar World Cup has attracted many fans to watch the game across borders. But this is not an easy thing. First of all, you need enough vacation time, and secondly, you need enough money.
The host country of this World Cup, Qatar, has a land area equivalent to only 1.5 Guangzhou cities, and all the hotel rooms in the entire capital Doha add up to only 90,000. But the World Cup is a grand event for the whole world, and it not only needs to welcome players from various countries, but also a large number of fans.
The Qatar World Cup Organizing Committee expects that more than 1.2 million foreign fans will enter Qatar during the World Cup, and their average stay will be 4 to 5 days. The Qatar Tourism Authority said that 80% of hotel rooms have been booked by FIFA to provide accommodation for players, officials and sponsors from various countries.
Many Chinese fans who went to Qatar to watch the game also expressed the trouble of "it's hard to find a room" on social platforms.
Supply and demand affect prices. It is reported that the price of hotels throughout Qatar during the World Cup is four times the daily price. The price of a five-star hotel will reach US$5,000 (about RMB 35,511) per night, while the price of a two-star or three-star hotel is also between US$500-2,000 (about RMB 3,551-14,204). If calculated based on a 5-day journey, a fan's expenditure on the hotel is about 20,000-100,000 yuan.
In order to ease the pressure on hotels, Qatar has come up with various flexible ways of staying, such as desert tents, temporary wooden houses, container-style rooms, etc.
The Qatar Tourism Bureau said that it will use thousands of hotel-style desert tents and 8,000 temporary wooden houses to build a relatively affordable fan village. The tents cost $80 per night (about 568 yuan), and the container-style houses in the fan village cost up to $200 per night (about 1,450 yuan).
Qatar has built many fan villages in Doha, among which the fan village at Hamad International Airport is the largest. According to on-site visual observation, there are nearly 6,000 simple container-style houses arranged in sequence. Each room is about 16 square meters and can accommodate two people. Although small, they are fully equipped with independent toilets, air conditioners, tea drinking equipment and wardrobes.
It is reported that the container-style houses are all "Made in China", and the panels are mainly from Guangdong and Zhejiang. A house can be assembled in just 4 hours. In the football viewing area of the fan village, in front of hundreds of "lazy" sofas, the huge electronic screen is also a high-tech product of China.
Thumbs up for Made in China.
